Last year Clara Musical Society had Nazi Sympathising singing pigeons in their hilarious production of Mel Brookes’ The Producers and there will be plenty of birds on stage again this year but of a one hundred percent family friendly variety when the curtain rises next Tuesday night, April 9, for Seussical the musical. Now in their 43rd year, Clara MS are never afraid to take on new and lesser known pieces and this year is no exception. Based on the stories and characters of Dr Seuss the show will come to life with children’s favourites like Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, JoJo, Yertle the Turtle, and the Grinch to name but a few.

Ballyhaunis 8K goes to the tape tomorrow

The Ballyhaunis 8k takes place next Saturday, September 29 at 4pm. This is race number seven in the Mayo Road league. Last year three former Irish Olympians took part, Jerry Kiernan, David Matthews and Noel Berkeley, who won the race in a fast time of 25:54. The women’s race was won by Mary Gleeson (Mayo AC) in 29:16. A large attendance is expected again this year.

Bidwell and Gleeson show their class in Claremorris 5K

Matt Bidwell and Mary Gleeson further underlined their status as leading runners in this year's Mayo AC Road League on Saturday in Claremorris. It was the 10th running of the De Care Dental sponsored 'Sport a Smile' five mile event and brought a fun atmosphere to the town centre with puppet shows, face painting, music etc. It also served as a focus for Mayo Cancer Support through participants and street collections.
